Power on board

Onboard electrical systems, batteries, charging and control. Victron is my first choice, with extensive Mastervolt experience too.

Victron Energy charging and battery management equipment, including Cerbo GX, Orion XS and Lynx Smart BMS.

Victron is my first choice; I also work with Mastervolt

I have worked in marine electrical systems and electronics since 2000. Throughout that time, Victron has given me reasons to trust the robustness and reliability of its equipment. Over the past five years I have increasingly focused my offering on this brand: I prefer to simplify and build deeper knowledge of a system I know well. When I have the choice, it is my first recommendation.

That is a preference based on experience, not an exclusive commitment. I worked with Mastervolt for more than a decade and know its systems well. I can also provide support, supply spare parts, install and expand Mastervolt equipment, or assess integration with other systems according to the compatibility of each installation.

From the battery to the circuit you use

Power on board involves much more than a charger or inverter. I can help with electrical installations, cabling, contactors, relays and circuit control, as well as the electrical side of passerelles, lighting and dimmers, bilge pumps and bilge alarms.

For generation, storage and conversion, I work with batteries, including lithium, alternators, solar panels, MPPT controllers, DC-DC converters, DC-AC inverters and AC-DC chargers. The choice of isolated or non-isolated equipment, its capacity and its settings is considered as part of the overall installation, alongside protection and the boat’s requirements.

Batteries, charging and equipment working together

An upgrade needs more thought than simply adding battery capacity. I review what the boat consumes, how that energy is replenished and how the different charging sources work together. This can inform anything from a targeted improvement to a system designed for greater autonomy.

I configure and integrate Victron equipment and its different battery management solutions —BMS—, assessing compatibility with the batteries and the rest of the installation. The aim is for charging, storage and consumption to work as a coherent system, with information that helps you understand what is happening.

Understanding the system and adding useful automation

Local and remote monitoring lets you check the installation’s status and study its behaviour. I also work on integrating that information and setting up conditional automation: defining what should happen when a condition is met, which notification is useful or how particular loads should be managed.

These functions depend on the equipment available and how the boat is used. Before implementing them, we agree the conditions, actions and how their operation will be checked, while retaining the protection each circuit needs.

Greater autonomy, less heat and noise

An improvement does not always mean installing more power. You may want to reduce losses, improve equipment ventilation, adjust charging or make the installation run more quietly and efficiently.

Tell me what you want to improve: autonomy at anchor, temperature, noise, charging, consumption or a particular fault. With equipment models, diagrams and usage data, we can assess what to keep, what to adjust and what is worth changing.

The work I take on

My work focuses on onboard service electrical systems, charging, batteries, conversion, control and monitoring. I no longer take on large high-power AC installations, generator synchronisation or high-power three-phase generation projects.

If a job falls into that area, we clarify it from the start. I prefer to focus my time where I can contribute most, particularly where electrical systems meet electronics, communications and intelligent onboard management.
