“Excuse me, are you the guy with the card?”
I have been asked that on the pontoons. This card has started many conversations and somehow travelled further than I imagined. Once, someone in Asia who had never been to Mallorca got in touch after coming across it. They wanted to congratulate me and politely asked whether they could take inspiration from the idea.
I designed it myself, spending a full day on it. It is a printed circuit board — a PCB — with a design on both sides, which I have made by circuit board manufacturers in Asia. In your hand, it has a very different presence and feel from a paper business card.
What may look simple now took quite a bit of detailed work. The rope beneath the logo, on either side of the anchor, is made from small pads: the metal areas used as connection points on a circuit board. I designed a custom pad, rotated it and repeated it to create the rope effect with the gold-coloured finish.
I had to explore the design possibilities and manufacturing constraints to get the result I wanted. The tracks, pads and layout are all part of the same idea: using the language of electronics to introduce myself.
I am proud of the work behind it and the conversations it has started. I am sharing it here because it also says something about me: how much I enjoy creating things, taking care over details and finding a way to turn an idea into something real.
